Gayle's actions
Food
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean since the Puget Sound is connected to all!
Waste
Pick up Trash
I will pick up and properly dispose of litter on a daily walk through my neighborhood, since stormwater will otherwise carry it to the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.
Food
farmers' market shopping
I will shop at a farmers market when possible.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate, so long term, it stays out of the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our Puget Sound and/or Pacific Ocean waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard to improve our regional ecosystem.
Transportation
Educating another on keeping distance from marine life.
My son is a new sailor and I want to be sure he is aware of the need to give marine mammals the space required.
Water
Old tarp banishment
I will talk with or leave notes for two people regarding old decayed plastic tarps left out rather than tossed out.
Water
Ditch the Lawn
I will replace my lawn with a drought-tolerant landscape and save the water, money, and time I used to spend cutting the grass.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 60 minutes learning how Washington’s Indigenous Communities are working to support Orca health, and what I can do to support them.
Education
Age of Nature
I will spend 60 minutes per week watching this PBS documentary and will discuss it with others.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Gayle Austin 11/04/2020 8:46 PMWhen I forget my bag, I gather the purchases in my arms...can't buy as much, have to leave the treats behind! If I forget my dear reusable cup, no coffee. Not without challenges. I need to remember bags for produce. And sometimes coffee places will waste a cup to make the coffee they then pour in my mug.
