Lexi's actions
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to landfills per day by composting my food, which reduces my climate footprint ultimately helping salmon and orcas.
Transportation
I will be Whale Wise as a Marine Boater or Paddler
I will spend 20 minutes learning about local marine laws pertaining to orcas, responsible boat maintenance techniques, and will follow the Be Whale Wise guidelines.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 15 hour(s) in my community to help watershed health that leads to the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by my local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate, so long term, it stays out of the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.
Food
Locally-Sourced Meals
I will source 1 meal(s) per day from local Puget Sound producers.
Food
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean since the Puget Sound is connected to all!
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers to minimize my water footprint, as in many watersheds, a drop for me is one less for salmon, which then warms streams or impairs salmon streamflows.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Locally-Sourced MealsIf you were to only eat what is in season locally, what would be the hardest food item for you to give up?
Lexi Brewer 10/30/2020 2:55 PMThe Pandemic makes sourcing food a bit weird, but I've been using Full Circle Organics boxes to source at least some local produce, and then splitting that box with my parents! I also brought home eggplants and squash from the Community Garden last week, that are going into tonight's curry. -
Lexi Brewer 10/13/2020 4:35 PMI'm counting my role on the Sustainable Tacoma Commission for this challenge, and the 15 hours is for this week, not this day. :)
