Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest Puget Sound farm to learn about locally produced food and the quality of life of all involved in producing it to make better choices for Puget Sound when I shop.

Plant Trees
I will plant 1 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard to combat climate change and reduce stormwater impacts to Puget Sound and/or Pacific Ocean.
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 45 minute(s) each day to connect with the shared ecosystem in which I live and rely on. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)

Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean since the Puget Sound is connected to all!
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent harmful storm-water runoff to the Puget Sound and/or Pacific Ocean and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Gaylen Heacock 11/03/2020 10:06 AMEducate by "doing". Use sustainable products, decline straws, reuse water bottles and mugs. Decline plastic bags -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Gaylen Heacock 10/09/2020 11:49 AMI purchased reusable net bags (environmentally friendly) and keep several in my car and take into grocery store or other store. I will not accept a disposable one … if I forget my reusable net bag I will either leave the store and retrieve it or carry items by hand. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Gaylen Heacock 10/09/2020 11:43 AMI believe it will be our children and our grandchildren. We are striving to clean up and bring awareness to our community but have a long way to go. Our children and theirs will be left with our planet. This includes of course our marine life and the pollution we leave, the earth we have polluted and the air quality that is less than how we found it when we began our lives. We need to work harder! -
Gaylen Heacock 9/27/2020 1:54 PMI purchased some cloth/ mesh small bags to use in place of plastic baggies. I will use these when I get produce and I will use in my kitchen in place of a sandwich bag.
