Georgia's actions

Waste

Pick up after my pets

I will pick up pet waste on every walk and once a week in my yard, since stormwater otherwise carries it to the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream, and downstream in Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean, by using a reusable water bottle.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our Puget Sound and/or Pacific Ocean waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Recycle Everything I Can

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by my local haulers or drop stations in my community.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Food

Join a Local CSA

I will sign up for a local CSA (community-supported agriculture) to help keep remaining farmland in farmland, in Puget Sound or Pacific Ocean watersheds, and reduce the trend towards paved over environments.

ONE-TIME ACTION

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Good! I caught up this week on my pet's clean-up and recycled everything I could with my
    Dad!

Great! I am keeping up with my weekly goals!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

I like supporting my local farmers here on Whidbey Island! My family buys from our local farmers market!

I cleaned up my yard from my dog, used a glass straw instead of a plastic one in my smoothie this morning, took out the recycle, and drank from my reusable water bottle!

Great! I make sure to remember my actions every day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I have my own reusable water bottle that I use every day and with my sports so I do not have to buy and use plastic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

By being very aware of what I do for the environment every day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

Where I live there are two recycling locations. My family and I recycle every day. We take our items like plastic, paper, cardboard, cans and glass to the recycle center each week.
