PAIGE's actions
Education
Learn about my watershed
I will spend 120 minutesIdentifying what sub-basin I live in and learning about my watershed's water quality, fish habitat problems, and options for volunteering.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 90 minutes learning how Washington’s Indigenous Communities are working to support Orca health, and what I can do to support them.
Education
Share my connection with Orcas through art
I will make a piece of art that connects my life to the life of Orcas and Salmon, and share it on social media.
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 15 minute(s) each day to connect with the shared ecosystem in which I live and rely on. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 5 hour(s) in my community to help watershed health that leads to the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.
Education
How does my local government support Orcas?
I will spend 15 learning about how my government is supporting watershed and orca health and encourage them to do more.
Education
Join the Orca Forum to learn from local researchers
Learn about orca research taking place in the Puget Sound in this workshop put on by Whidbey Island CD in partnership with Northwest Straits Foundation and County Marine Resource Committees. Wednesday, Oct. 14 5:30-7pm
Food
Learn More about Food Deserts
I will spend 15 minutes learning about food deserts and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh Puget Sound food in my region.
Waste
Pick up Trash
I will pick up and properly dispose of litter on a daily walk through my neighborhood, since stormwater will otherwise carry it to the Puget Sound and/or the Pacific Ocean.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

PAIGE KIRBY 11/05/2020 9:08 PMToday is our last day! Today I went outside and did some chalk with 3-year-old twins! It was very fun. I made the earth and under it, it said "Change the world." I hope that everybody had a great day today. -
PAIGE KIRBY 11/04/2020 6:15 PMToday I went on a lovely walk with my dad. We just got out before the rain started up again or should I say down! -
PAIGE KIRBY 11/03/2020 2:06 PMToday was a very rainy day. I went for a little stroll around the block. I was stressed and frustrated with school and the walk really helped me. I think walking is very good for the body and the mind. I hope that you have a good rest of your day! -
PAIGE KIRBY 11/02/2020 5:19 PMToday is day 29! I hope that our last 3 days are great! -
PAIGE KIRBY 11/01/2020 8:53 PMI went on a really fun bike ride with some of my friends. The leaves were amazing to see and I can't wait to go on another one. -
PAIGE KIRBY 11/01/2020 9:35 AMWe have four more days!!! Hope that everybody tries their hardest to earn points! -
PAIGE KIRBY 11/01/2020 9:34 AMI went trick or treating with my brother for the last time. COVID-19 trick or treating is way better than regular trick or treating because you get way more candy. It was a cold night and the moon was full, it was very pretty. -
PAIGE KIRBY 10/30/2020 7:34 PMToday I carved my pumpkin, it is an owl and it is really fun. I will send a picture in another post! -
PAIGE KIRBY 10/29/2020 8:03 PMWe have a bird feeder and the birds are always dropping the seed. Today, I watched a mouse and a squirrel eat the seeds. Every so often the mouse would get scared and it would jump around and it was really funny. The mouse went away after a while, but the squirrel stayed and it was fun to watch its little hands, grab at things. Also, there were birds that would hop around and eat the seeds. -
PAIGE KIRBY 10/28/2020 9:16 PMToday I passed out paper bags to most of the neighborhood kids and explained to them that I was collecting candy wrapper to be recycled. I hope that the turn out is good! I will let you know how it goes!
