Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Transportation
Contact my elected officials
If in Washington, I will contact my elected officials to communicate the need to create an annual Orca Protection Endorsement for all recreational boaters in Puget Sound, ensuring boaters are educated on limiting their Orca impacts
Education
Donate to Environmental Education organizations
I will research and donate to an organization providing environmental education to underserved audiences in my area.
Community
Remove invasive weeds
Recruit 2+ friends/family/neighbors and together remove invasive vegetation from our home/apartment building/neighborhood that is in a watershed upstream of downstream salmon and orcas.
Water
Keep water in streams for fish
I will not water my lawn during dry summer months, instead keeping water in the ground and streams to help fish survive.
Education
Puyallup Watershed Salmon Homecoming Celebration
I will participate in this year's virtual Salmon Homecoming Celebration during the month of October to learn more about where I can see, and how I can help salmon, an important food source for orca whales, in the Puyallup watershed by visiting: www.facebook.com/puyallupsalmon event page on social media or the event page online at: https://piercecd.org/539/Puyallup-Watershed-Salmon-Homecoming
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and stop using fertilizers so my footprint in my ecosystem doesn't harm the Puget Sound and/or Pacific Ocean downstream.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyIn what ways does your community practice food sovereignty and what would happen if you could not access those foods?
Krystal Kyer 10/13/2020 1:49 PMBy supporting local farmers and making it viable for lands to stay in agriculture we have access to local fresh foods. I do some wild harvesting of edible plants seasonally such as berries and mushrooms. These foods would cost a lot more if I had to buy them in the store. -
