    Water 5-Minute Showers
Five minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?

I think that finding other small ways to reduce water use is helpful. I probably still have some ways to improve on this one.

Transportation Learn about boat noise impacts
Do you know how orcas communicate? If you found your food, communicated with your family, learned of safety all through sound, but that sound was interrupted or muffled on a regular basis, would you imagine that to impact your ability to eat and navigate?

I spent some time learning about boat noise impacts. It would be very tough to have to rely on sound to find food and for communication and then be interrupted or muffled.

As someone who loves to eat, food deserts make me really sad.

It's been nice to see the trees changing colors. The birds were very chirpy today too.

Today I went on a lovely walk to drop off my ballot. Got to appreciate nature, enjoy nice weather, get a little exercise, and exercise my right to vote!

We planted our first batch of sprouted acorns in preparation for the first rain. It takes 8+ weeks for the acorns to sprout and you have to hibernate them in your fridge if you collect them early. We have learned a lot through this process and are working towards getting certified by Sacramento Tree Foundation for future greening of our watershed. https://www.sactree.com/event/142

Transportation I will be Whale Wise as a Marine Boater or Paddler
Why do you love spending time on the water? What draws you to paddle and boating? What are you hoping to see? What memories of wildlife leave an infinite impression on you?

It was always cool to see dolphins when I was out on the boat with my family. One of my coolest memories was watching an alligator and an egret stalk each other - the egret obviously had no idea how big the alligator truly was. The egret eventually realized something was amiss and flew off.

Planted an avocado that I sprouted from a pit. It was super cool to take something that had been "waste" and have it become a plant.

Enjoyed giving a virtual presentation on Orcas to a classroom of middle school students today.  They had great questions and inspired me!

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I am fortunate that I do not have many barriers to using a reusable bottle - I will do most anything to avoid purchasing a drink in a plastic bottle! The only barrier is my forgetfulness - or if refilling my water bottle isn't possible due to the pandemic/public health restrictions.
