Transportation

Stormwater is the number one pollution problem impacting Orcas, much of it coming from our roads.

Every year, over 14 million tons of stormwater pollution ends up in Puget Sound, let alone the greater Salish Sea. Much of this pollution comes from our cars: oil leaks, brake pad shavings, rubber from our tires, and more. All of this is toxic to salmon and Orcas poisoning their blood streams. In addition, marine boat traffic, noise, and pollution is one of the other primary threats to Southern Residents. By making better, more responsible choices with transportation, we can help recover this iconic species.
