Installing a low-flow shower head (done), not showering daily if not needed, and using the valve on the shower head to cease or decrease the water flow when lathering up

It's the last day of the Orca Recovery EcoChallenge! Thanks to everyone on the team for participating, making this fun, and helping the orcas!

    Transportation Use a Carwash
Where does the greywater go after you wash your car in a driveway? Did you know that most of our street sewage heads to the Puget Sound?

In the driveway, all of the water from washing your car goes straight into storm drain and systems that lead right into waterways. Having nearly no filter, this water carrying harmful chemicals can harm the marine and wildlife of our surrounding environments. These chemicals can disrupt biological functions of these animals, and can ultimately decimate an ecosystem.

    Nature Join An Outdoor Project
How well do you know the area you live in? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?

I'm quite familiar with my surroundings, especially since I've grown up in the same neighborhood since I was little. I think being familiar with the world around you is very important because it helps me notice a change or the environment slowly showing signs of damage.

    Food Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

Personally, I find that I don't eat as much seafood as the rest of my family, but when we do eat seafood together, we make sure to keep an eye out for where the food is coming from is if they are good alternatives for human consumption. My parents and I made a pact to not eat Chinook Salmon for at least a year, and longer if it's possible! It's so helpful to have the Seafood Watch App!

I'm grateful for the rain today hoping it will bring more salmon into the Salish Sea for our resident Orcas!

The EcoChallenge is still on! Don't forget to check-in today. We all could use a moment of reflection, rainy day or no, so get outside for a walk, bring a bag and pick up trash, and remember that we can all play a part in improving the health of the Salish Sea.

    Don't take showers everyday.

    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I would find myself needing a disposable bag if I forget to bring a bag to the grocery store. Ways I can prevent that is always keeping a bag in the car or writing notes to myself, so I remember to bring them

    Community Express My Support
What sustainability issues are most pressing or prominent where you live?

CLIMATE CHANGE! It is affecting everything that we all care about, and everything we want our children and grandchildren and EVERYONE to be able to enjoy. It is urgent to commit ourselves to climate justice work.
There are so many other pressing sustainability issues, but they all have a connection to climate change: The orcas rely on salmon, which are struggling even more with rising stream and ocean temperatures. Plastics are made with fossil fuels. Climate change is exacerbating human health disparities.
